FAQ
WHAT IS A DVR?
Digital Video Recording (DVR) is a surveillance system that provides superior quality and dependable security recording in digital format. Obsolete time-lapse VCR’s continue to shrink as units needing repair are being replaced with new digital recorders. It is estimated that the CCTV industry will experience a complete conversion from analog to digital technology by the year 2010. This new technology runs circles around that of analog VCR’s, having many new features and conveniences. Owners of new DVR’s enjoy sharper recorded images, quick and easy searching, and simple installation and setup. There is really no argument. DVR’s are now the mainstream recording medium of the security industry.
WHY USE DVR?
Replaces VCR’s and time-lapse recorders Very efficient and simple to operate Eliminates multiple components or devices No more video cassettes to change as images are stored on Hard Drive No degradation of image as digital technology is used Superior resolution provides easier identification Allows for remote access which enables users to view or change system setup
DO I HAVE TO RECORD ALL THE TIME?
No. You can record continuously, on a schedule, or by motion sensor depending on your needs and preferences.
WHAT IS REMOTE ACCESS?
Remote access means the user can view the main DVR surveillance system from any computer that has internet access at any time of the day or night to see what is happening when they are not there. This allows owners/users to monitor businesses, employees, cottages at any time- including the off season, homes while on vacation, etc.
IS THERE A MONITORING FEE?
No. Once the system is installed, the monitoring is done by the user. Should anything happen, the user simply burns the occurence onto a disc and submits it to the authorities. The authorities then have concrete, identifying images to find the perpetrators and prosecute. Many people who subscribe to alarm system monitoring are frustrated with high monthly fees and are realizing that by the time the authorities are alerted and arrive, the perpetrators are long gone and so are there belongings.
WHAT ARE THE APPLICATIONS AND USES OF DVR’S?
The application possibilities of DVR’s are as endless as the user’s imagination. We see this technology in use in almost any possible security application. Surveillance examples include, but are not limited to: businesses, individual offices, stock rooms, schools, parking lots, homes, cottages, yards, pool areas, children, trailers, warehouses, loading docks, farming equipment (harvesters etc.), barns, individual stalls, drive sheds, laneways, workshops and sheds.
WHAT IF THERE IS A POWER FAILURE?
In the event of a power failure, the system automatically restarts when the power is restored, and continues to record exactly as per your schedule or set up prior to the power failure. If a UPS (Uniterruptable Power Supply) is added, there will be no disruption in recording even during a power failure.
